A student may request a grade of incomplete (I) in a course if all of the following conditions are met:

  • The student has a passing grade at the time the incomplete is granted.
  • A minimal amount of the course work is required for a final semester grade.
  • A serious and verifiable reason for not completing the assigned course work is provided to the instructor.
  • No additional class time is required for completion of the course.

The grade of incomplete (I) will be granted only on approval of the course instructor. The instructor will specify, on the appropriate form, a list of conditions necessary for removal of the incomplete grade. The instructor will specify the grade to be assigned if the listed conditions are not satisfied within the allotted time period. If the list of conditions are satisfied (within the allotted time specified) the instructor is to notify the Records department and assign the appropriate grade on the class roster and the student’s permanent record will be adjusted.

An incomplete grade will be replaced by the appropriate letter grade no later than one full semester (excluding Summer) after it has been granted, though earlier limits may be set by the course instructor. Students may not re-enroll in the course for which they have received an incomplete (I) during the time that the incomplete is in effect.
